Job summary

Telecon in Tacoma, WA seeks a Traffic Control Flagger to set up, maintain and remove safe temporary traffic control zones for construction and roadway projects. You will direct traffic with paddles, signs and signals, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

The role requires safety focus, reliability, ability to follow plans, and strong teamwork. Valid CDL not required but a driving record is checked; certification (ATSSA) or ability to obtain is expected.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required.
• ATSSA Traffic Control Technician or Flagger Certification required (or ability to obtain upon hire).
• Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time.
• One year of traffic control/flagging experience preferred.
• Knowledge of work zone safety practices and standards preferred.
• Ability to read traffic control plans and project layouts a plus.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Set up, maintain, and remove temporary traffic control devices such as cones, barricades, signs, barrels, arrow boards, and delineators.
• Direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic using stop/slow paddles, hand signals, and radio communication.
• Perform lane closures and traffic shifts in accordance with approved traffic control plans and safety regulations.
• Monitor work zones to ensure devices remain properly positioned and effective.
• Communicate with crew, supervisors, contractors, and the public regarding traffic flow and safety concerns.
• Load, unload, transport, and organize traffic control equipment and materials.
• Operate company vehicles and transport equipment to and from job sites.
• Identify and report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or non-compliance with directions.
• Maintain focus on public safety and comply with all regulations.
• Complete daily logs, safety documentation, and other reports.
• Support general labor duties on project sites as needed.
• Work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, overtime, and emergency responses.
