Responsibilities

• Traffic Management: Set up and maintain traffic control devices; Direct and guide traffic; Operate traffic lights or devices.
• Safety Compliance: Ensure regulatory compliance; Monitor for safety hazards; Provide safety instructions.
• Communication: Maintain clear and direct communication; Collaborate with team; Bilingual skills are a plus for areas with diverse populations.
• Signage and Setup: Install and remove traffic control devices; Daily checks.
• Customer Service: Respond to public inquiries; Assist motorists and pedestrians.
• Additional Qualifications: Maintain a clean driving record.
• ATSSA Certification: The American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) certification is a key requirement, demonstrating training in traffic control safety practices and qualification to manage work zone traffic control.
• Year-Round / Some Overtime: Some overtime may be required.

Additional Considerations

• Physical Demands: The role often requires physical stamina; workers are on their feet for long periods, may be exposed to harsh weather, and may need to lift or move traffic control devices.
• Training and Development: In addition to ATSSA certification, on-the-job training or additional safety courses may be provided to stay up-to-date with safety standards and regulations.
• Working Conditions: Outdoors, often near heavy traffic; may involve noise, dust, and hazardous conditions in construction zones. Safety gear such as high-visibility vests, hard hats, and gloves is mandatory.
