Job summary

Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa, AZ is seeking a part-time Traffic Control Attendant to manage high-volume ingress and egress, direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic, and enforce parking regulations during events.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver's license, and strong customer service and communication skills. Previous traffic control or public safety experience is preferred; First Aid/CPR/AED certification is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in traffic control, parking enforcement, security, or public safety preferred.
  • Experience supporting large sports venues, entertainment venues, airports, universities or municipal traffic operations preferred.
  • Knowledge of traffic laws and parking regulations on public and private roadways.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Certification preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with staff, guests, vendors, and law enforcement.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor parking facilities and enforce parking regulations.
  • Direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic to ensure safe traffic flow.
  • Dynamically adjust traffic patterns based on congestion; coordinate with Security, Guest Services, Event Operations, Police and Fire/EMS.
  • Respond to traffic incidents, accidents, and customer inquiries.
  • Set up, move, inspect and remove traffic control devices, including cones, barricades, message boards, fencing and signs before, during and after events.
  • Report safety hazards, damaged signs, or equipment issues.
  • Maintain accurate logs, reports, and incident documentation.
  • Provide courteous assistance and event information to all our guests.
  • Work collaboratively with law enforcement, emergency responders, and event staff.
  • Monitor parking occupancy; activate overflow lots and shuttle operations; manage VIP, team bus, vendor and ADA parking; conduct opening/closing lot inspections; protect pedestrian crossings; maintain emergency vehicle access; complete incident reports; communicate via two-way radio.

Arizona Athletic Grounds (“AAG”) is one of the largest youth-oriented sports facilities in the United States, serving millions of visitors per year and providing athletic programming and a variety of special events. AAG’s operational footprint includes a 2,500+ seat outdoor stadium, 24 multi-purpose fields, 62 indoor/beach volleyball courts, 41 pickleball courts, 16 basketball courts, 8 baseball/softball diamonds, and more!

Position Summary

Manage high-volume ingress and egress operations; deploy traffic control plans; maintain emergency access routes; optimize traffic flow during tournaments, concerts and special events. The successful candidate will assist with directing traffic during large event ingress and egress periods and emergencies, monitoring parking areas, enforcing parking regulations, and providing world class customer service to the millions of athletes and guests who visit the Arizona Athletic Grounds every year.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment
  • Flexible schedule including evenings, most weekends, holidays, and extended event schedules.
  • Must be able to tolerate moderate to loud noise levels and high-energy event environments.
  • Work in varying temperature conditions - including outdoor environments in Arizona heat - during events at AAG; work may continue during adverse weather conditions.
  • Requires extended periods of standing, walking, and active “Grounds” presence; sitting for long periods is not typical of this role.
  • Physical ability to respond quickly in emergency situations, direct traffic, and assist with operational tasks as needed.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
