Job summary

Charleston County Public Works Department seeks a motivated grounds maintenance assistant to join our outdoor operations team. Primary tasks include operating mowers, weed eaters, chainsaws, edgers, trimmers, and hand tools to maintain county properties and drainage easements.

You must be safety minded, able to lift 55 lbs, have reliable transportation, and hold a valid SC Driver’s License. A four-day workweek and benefits are offered to Regular Full Time County employees.

• Ability to comprehend and execute written and verbal instructions.
• Willingness to provide good customer service.

Responsibilities

• Operate grounds equipment: mowers, weed eaters, trimmers, and blowers.
• Maintain grounds equipment and tools; operate landscape truck safely.
• Assist with maintenance of drainage easements and rights-of-way.

HIRING HOURLY: $20.62

Primary tasks will include, but not limited to,operating zero turn and push mowers, weed eaters, chain saws, edgers, trimmers, pruners, blowers, pole saws, and various hand tools to provide grounds maintenance on County properties and/or maintenance of County drainage easements and road rights-of-way; maintaining assigned grounds equipment and tools; and safely operating and maintaining landscape truck. Experience with computers and/or tablets is preferred

• High school diploma (or GED)
• Ability to comprehend and execute written and verbal instructions

• Ability to safely operate hand tools and power equipment using proper PPE
• Assist with preventative maintenance of equipment and vehicles
• Maintain a clean and safe crew area; as well as other related duties as assigned
• Must be safety-minded and be able to work well in a demanding, team-oriented environment
• Ability to lift 55 lbs.
• Reliable transportation to get to work
• Have and maintain a valid SC Driver’s License
• Available to report to work during hazardous weather or emergency conditions
