Job summary

Pascua Yaqui Tribe is seeking a Trades Maintenance Laborer to support skilled trades staff by performing helper-level maintenance tasks on facilities, grounds, and equipment. The role involves assisting technicians, conducting operator-level inspections, and helping prepare areas for repair or maintenance.

Candidates should be able to work outdoors in varying weather, follow instructions, and communicate effectively.

Qualifications

• Completion of the eighth grade and six months general experience in construction or equivalent.
• High School Diploma or GED is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist trades maintenance personnel in duties.
• Perform inspections, servicing, and maintenance of tools and vehicles at operator level.
• Do non-skilled replacement, repair, or adjustment of components.
• Prepare areas or equipment for repair, painting, or maintenance.
• Apply turf care and herbicides/pesticides under supervision.
• Maintain security for tools and materials in sensitive settings.
• Use safety PPE and maintain cleanliness and order in the workplace.
• Perform other similar duties as directed.

Job description

The Trades Maintenance Laborer performs helper or apprentice levels of work maintaining and repairing facilities, grounds, equipment or their parts in direct support of a process, system, facility or grounds.

1. Assist the Trades Maintenance Technician, Trades Maintenance Specialist, and others in the performance of their duties.
2. Perform operator-level inspections, servicing, and maintenance of assigned tools, equipment, and vehicles.
3. Perform non-skilled replacement, repair, or adjustment of facility or system components.
4. Prepare and clean areas or equipment undergoing repair, painting, maintenance, construction or other related activity.
5. Cut, trim, seed and apply fertilize, and under supervision apply herbicides/pesticides to turf grasses, soils, trees, and ornament shrubs.
6. Maintain security and accountability for all tools, equipment and materials required in performance of duties, particularly in a medical, detention, or correctional setting.
7. Maintain and use safety and personal protective equipment.
8. Perform housekeeping services to maintain safe, clean, and orderly conditions in the workplace.
9. Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by supervisor or director.

Knowledge of:

• Operation and maintenance of basic hand and powered tools, equipment and materials encountered in area of specialization of assigned work area;
• Typical hazards of the assigned work areas or encountered in the area of specialization and safety procedures and equipment required;
• Yaqui culture, customs, resources and traditions and/or a willingness to learn.

Skills and Abilities:

• Perform helper-level duties in the area of assignment;
• Operate and perform operator-level maintenance of powered equipment in the area of assignment;
• Relate to homeowners and tenants in a friendly, courteous and considerate manner;
• Work outside in varying weather conditions;

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public;
• Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing;

Completion of the eighth grade and six (6) months general experience in construction field; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

AND

• High School Diploma or GED is preferred.

Special Requirements:

• Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License;
• This position will require the Incumbent to work non-traditional hours, nights, and weekends;
• Must have a current Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card or be able to obtain one within ninety (90) days of hire. Failure to maintain a cureent Level 1 Clearance Card will result in termination.
