Job summary

Ysleta Independent School District is seeking a Maintenance and Operations helper to assist across trades and support district facilities in El Paso, TX. You will read and follow manufacturer instructions, maintain vehicles and tools, and perform manual tasks to complete work orders.

Ideal candidates have a High School diploma or GED, the ability to follow verbal and written instructions, and at least one year of related maintenance experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred; ability to follow verbal and/or written instructions.
• Ability to read and understand instructions related to grounds, maintenance, vehicle maintenance and repair, and safety procedures.
• One year experience in grounds, maintenance, equipment, and vehicle maintenance and repair, or related duties.

Responsibilities

• Aid in any trade area as assigned under supervision.
• Read, interpret, and follow manufacturer instructions for equipment use and repair districtwide.
• Manage vehicle and inventory and materials, tools, and equipment; request maintenance scheduling and keep areas clean.
• Load and unload tools and materials and operate tools, equipment, and machinery safely.
• Perform manual work to complete tasks and ensure cleanup.
• Work with a crew under a supervisor and complete repairs on work orders.
• Cooperate with co-workers and report issues to supervisor.
• Attendance at the work site is required to meet essential functions.

Job description

Assist the Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Department personnel in performing a trade. Adhere to federal and state laws, as well as district policies, procedures, and regulations.

Essential Functions

• Able to assist in any trade area as assigned under direct or indirect supervision.
• Read, interpret, and follow all printed instructions by manufacturers for the use and/or repair of equipment districtwide.
• Be responsible for vehicle and vehicle inventory (if assigned) and for materials, tools, and equipment, including making adjustments and using safe operating procedures; request scheduling of required maintenance and inspections and keep vehicle, tools, equipment, and work areas clean and orderly.
• Load and unload tools and materials and operate tools, equipment, and machinery safely.
• Perform manual work needed to complete assigned tasks, to include general cleanup.
• When assigned to a specific M&O department, may perform duties as part of a crew/team under the direction of the assigned supervisor and complete repairs as directed on work orders or by assignment.
• Cooperate with other co-workers and routinely report any issues, concerns and/or necessary information to the immediate supervisor.
• Attendance at the work site is required to meet essential functions of the job.

Qualifications

High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) preferred; ability to follow verbal and/or written instructions; ability to read and understand instructions related to grounds, maintenance, vehicle maintenance and repair, and safety procedures; one (1) year experience in grounds, maintenance, equipment, and vehicle maintenance and repair, or related duties. Must possess a valid Texas or New Mexico driver's license; be insurable by the district's auto liability insurance carrier; subject to the YISD drug and alcohol testing policy and regulation.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

Must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to fifty (50) pounds frequently; must be able to work outside and inside, under all weather conditions, on slippery and uneven walking surfaces, frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, and vibrations; must be able to work alone or with a team, regularly working irregular hours, occasional prolonged hours, and frequent districtwide travel. Must be adaptable to work a shift schedule and/or hours other than regularly assigned; extended periods of walking, standing, bending, reaching, kneeling, stooping, climbing, lifting, and carrying. Have the ability to climb ladders up to 8 feet unassisted and higher with assistance; exposure to insects; ability to work with pesticides and herbicides or other potentially hazardous materials in a safe manner. Occasionally may need to work on rooftops or other areas above the ground.
