Job summary

Ysleta Independent School District is seeking staff to assist the Maintenance and Operations (M&O) team with a variety of trade tasks. The role includes reading manufacturers’ instructions, maintaining vehicle and tool inventories, and performing safe loading/unloading of materials across district facilities.

The position requires following safety procedures, working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather, and collaborating with coworkers while adhering to district policies.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED as applicable.
• Ability to follow verbal and/or written instructions related to grounds, maintenance of equipment and safety procedures.
• Must possess a valid Texas or New Mexico driver’s license and be insurable by the district’s auto liability insurance carrier.

Responsibilities

• Assist in assigned M&O trades under supervision.
• Read and follow manufacturers’ instructions for equipment use or repair districtwide.
• Handle vehicles, tools, and materials; perform safe loading/unloading and maintain clean work areas.
• Perform manual tasks and general cleanup; work as part of a crew under supervisor guidance.
• Report issues to supervisor and comply with attendance policies.

Job description

Assist the Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Department personnel in performing a trade. Adhere to federal and state laws, as well as district policies, procedures, and regulations.

Essential Functions

• Able to assist in any trade area as assigned under direct or indirect supervision.
• Read, interpret, and follow all printed instructions by manufacturers for the use and/or repair of equipment districtwide.
• Be responsible for vehicle and vehicle inventory (if assigned) and for materials, tools, and equipment, including making adjustments and using safe operating procedures; request scheduling of required maintenance and inspections and keep vehicle, tools, equipment, and work areas clean and orderly.
• Load and unload tools and materials and operate tools, equipment, and machinery safely.
• Perform manual work needed to complete assigned tasks, to include general cleanup.
• When assigned to a specific M&O department, may perform duties as part of a crew/team under the direction of the assigned supervisor and complete repairs as directed on work orders or by assignment.
• Cooperate with other co-workers and routinely report any issues, concerns and/or necessary information to the immediate supervisor.
• Attendance at the work site is required to meet essential functions of the job.

Other Responsibilities

• Participate in professional development activities as required by the district.
• Follow established safety procedures to perform job duties; support district/department goals.
• Maintain a professional code of ethics and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) preferred; ability to follow verbal and/or written instructions; ability to read and understand instructions related to grounds, maintenance, vehicle maintenance and repair, and safety procedures; one (1) year experience in grounds, maintenance, equipment, and vehicle maintenance and repair, or related duties. Must possess a valid Texas or New Mexico driver's license; be insurable by the district's auto liability insurance carrier; subject to the YISD drug and alcohol testing policy and regulation.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

Must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to fifty (50) pounds frequently; must be able to work outside and inside, under all weather conditions, on slippery and uneven walking surfaces, frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, and vibrations; must be able to work alone or with a team, regularly working irregular hours, occasional prolonged hours, and frequent districtwide travel. Must be adaptable to work a shift schedule and/or hours other than regularly assigned; extended periods of walking, standing, bending, reaching, kneeling, stooping, climbing, lifting, and carrying. Have the ability to climb ladders up to 8 feet unassisted and higher with assistance; exposure to insects; ability to work with pesticides and herbicides or other potentially hazardous materials in a safe manner. Occasionally may need to work on rooftops or other areas above the ground.
