Job summary

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation seeks a Trades Generalist to perform skilled and semi-skilled activities across maintenance programs. You will operate single and dual axle dump trucks, plan and lay out construction, repair, and maintenance projects, and supervise other workers as needed.

The role requires flexibility, overtime, and emergency response, with accurate reporting and the ability to work in remote areas and adverse weather.

Qualifications

• Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Must obtain a Class A CDL within 12 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements and no air brake restriction.
• Must be able to work in remote areas and adverse weather conditions.
• Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. Must obtain a Class A CDL within 12 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements and no air brake restriction.

Additional Comments

This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 3/31/2027. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.

Transportation needs of this position require use of a state vehicle and adhering to the Department’s Vehicle Policy. You must have and maintain a valid driver’s license for this position.

Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required.

Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.

Must be able to work in remote areas.

Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.

Will be subject to the Federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (OTETA) of 1991, which requires employee testing for drug and alcohol abuse.

Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
