Job summary

TDK U.S.A. Corporation (TDK USA) seeks a seasoned Trade Operations & Compliance Manager to lead import/export, sanctions and supply chain risk compliance for the U.S. market. The role spans data management, policy implementation, and training across TDK USA and affiliates.

The ideal candidate has substantial experience in U.S. trade regulations, strong screening tool skills, and willingness to collaborate with global teams in Japan and the Americas. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, plus 5-10 years of U.S. trade operations and compliance experience.
  • Knowledge of U.S. trade regulations governing exports, imports, Customs, sanctions (EAR, ITAR, OFAC regulations, U.S. Customs regulations, etc.)
  • Skilled in trade screening and due diligence software tools (SAP Compliance, Dow Jones, Sayari, Kharon, Visual Compliance, etc.)
  • Familiarity with ACE Portal management including ACE report generation, EEI filing via AES, and related submissions and monitoring (liquidation, PSC, Protest, PGA, etc.) required
  • Familiarity with submitting license applications through the BIS SNAP-R system and DDTC DECCS portal required

Responsibilities

  • Screening & Due Diligence: Conduct screening and KYC for all international business transactions for new and existing business partners and third parties.
  • Import & Export Classification: Conduct and process commodity import classification for goods as required by U.S. customs regulations, and export classification for goods, software and technology as required by EAR/ITAR.
  • Trade Data Management: Manage and enhance operations and compliance data systems and databases for import, export and international business transactions.
  • Trade Risk Management: Identify trade risks and develop and implement trade compliance plans to manage key trade risks and enhance compliance.
  • License Determination Review: Conduct license and license determination reviews for international transactions including import/export under OFAC, EAR, ITAR and customs regulations.
  • Policies, Procedures & Training: Manage and implement import, export and sanctions policies, procedures and training for TDK USA and affiliates.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

TDK USA is seeking a seasoned trade professional with significant experience in key areas of U.S. trade regulatory operations and compliance, including import, export, sanctions and supply chain risk management. The Trade Operations & Compliance Manager (Trade Manager) is primarily responsible for providing trade operations and compliance management support to TDK USA and to our TDK U.S. subsidiary and affiliate companies. Trade operations and compliance support includes import and export operations and data management, as well as import, customs, export controls, and sanctions compliance training, policies and procedures.

Because TDK is an international electronics corporation headquartered in Japan, the TDK USA Trade Manager must have a strong interest in technology and global trade policy, with an appreciation for Japan’s role in Asia and the world and TDK’s operations in the U.S., against the background of regulatory and geopolitical developments in China, India, Europe, Asia and Latin America. The Trade Manager must have the capability to work across various functions and departments within TDK USA, with the other TDK U.S. companies, and with colleagues in Japan and globally.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Screening & Due Diligence: Conduct screening and KYC for all international business transactions for new and existing business partners and third parties. Conduct sanctions and export control due diligence review of exports, end users, end uses, and intermediaries for export transactions. Conduct enhanced supply chain due diligence review of high-risk suppliers. Develop due diligence action plans as needed. Enhance screening and due diligence tools.
  • Import & Export Classification: Conduct and process commodity import classification (HTSUS) for goods as required by U.S. customs regulations, and export classification (ECCN, USML) for goods, software and technology as required by U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), along with End User controls.
  • Trade Data Management: Manage and enhance operations and compliance data systems and databases for import, export and international business transactions.
  • Trade Risk Management: Work with the Trade Operations and Compliance team to identify trade risks and develop and implement trade compliance plans to manage key trade risks and enhance compliance. These activities may relate to import, export, sanctions, customs, or supply chain management.
  • License Determination Review: Conduct license and license determination reviews for international business transactions including import and exports under U.S. sanctions OFAC regulations, U.S. EAR, ITAR and U.S customs regulations.
  • Policies, Procedures & Training: Manage and implement import, export and sanctions policies, procedures and training, including internal TDK regulations, for TDK USA and the TDK U.S. affiliate companies.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree required, plus 5-10 years of U.S. trade operations and compliance experience, including import, export, sanctions and supply chain.
  • Knowledge of U.S. trade regulations governing exports, imports, Customs, sanctions (EAR, ITAR, OFAC regulations, U.S. Customs regulations, etc.)
  • Skilled in trade screening and due diligence software tools (SAP Compliance, Dow Jones, Sayari, Kharon, Visual Compliance, etc.)
  • Familiarity with ACE Portal management including ACE report generation, EEI filing via AES, and related submissions and monitoring (liquidation, PSC, Protest, PGA, etc.) required
  • Familiarity with submitting license applications through the BIS SNAP-R system and DDTC DECCS portal required
  • Experience at a global manufacturing and/or software company a plus.
  • Some domestic and international travel may be required.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

TDK U.S.A. offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, 401(k), pension, life insurance, vacation, tuition reimbursement, work from home stipend, and 13 paid holidays.

The starting annual base pay for this role is between $110,000 and $145,000 USD. The actual base is dependent upon many factors, including training, transferable skills, job-related knowledge, work experience, business needs, market demands, and location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
