Waukesha, WI (Onsite) | Direct Hire | Salaried, Exempt | $75,000 to $90,000

Job Description

Our client, an established Waukesha, WI manufacturer of high-performance computing systems serving defense and other regulated markets, is hiring an International Trade Compliance Specialist to own its international trade compliance program.

This is an individual contributor role with real authority. There are no direct reports; instead, you’ll personally handle critical compliance work while building the processes, controls, and training that let the program scale, working through partners in Logistics, Supply Chain, Engineering, Finance, Quality, and IT. You’ll serve as the company’s primary onsite Foreign-Trade Zone (FTZ) administrator and have the authority to place transactions on hold when information is incomplete or a compliance concern exists. The role reports to the Director of Quality and Compliance, with regular visibility to executive leadership

Requirements

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, international business, logistics, engineering, finance, or a related field (equivalent experience considered)
  • 5+ years of experience in import/export operations, customs compliance, export controls, or international trade compliance
  • Background in electronics, computer hardware, semiconductors, aerospace and defense, medical devices, or another complex manufacturing environment with internationally sourced components
  • Working knowledge of HTS and Schedule B classification, ECCN classification, customs valuation, country-of-origin rules, and restricted-party screening
  • Ability to interpret technical product information, complex bills of material, and software or encryption functionality
  • Experience working with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and government agencies
  • Sound judgment in identifying, escalating, and resolving compliance risk
  • Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills, with experience in ERP, FTZ, screening, or global trade management systems
  • Must be a U.S. person or otherwise able to access export-controlled technical information, due to the company’s defense-related business

Preferred:

  • Direct experience managing a manufacturing FTZ, including weekly entries, annual reporting, and CBP audits
  • Working knowledge of EAR, ITAR, OFAC sanctions, export licenses, and Technology Control Plans
  • Credentials such as Licensed Customs Broker, Certified Customs Specialist, Certified Export Specialist, or FTZ Certified Specialist (willingness to obtain an FTZ credential will be considered)
