Railserve, part of Marmon Holdings, is hiring a Tamper Operator based in Indiana for remote, full-time work. You will operate tamper machines to align and compact ballast, ensuring rail surface stability and safe operations across project sites.

The role requires 1–2 years of railroad maintenance experience, a valid license, and FRA/AREMA safety knowledge. Travel, outdoor work, and varied shifts are common. Competitive benefits provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1–2 years railroad maintenance or rail-bound machinery experience preferred.
• Valid driver\'s license; CDL may be required depending on jurisdiction.
• Certification for railway equipment operation (e.g., FRA-compliant training).
• Strong track geometry knowledge and safety protocol familiarity.

Responsibilities

• Operate rail-mounted tamper machines to align, level, and compact track ballast beneath railway ties.
• Follow track maintenance schedules and procedures under the Track Supervisor.
• Read and interpret track diagrams, work orders, and machine settings.
• Conduct pre-operation inspections for safety and function; perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with MOW crews, report unsafe conditions or malfunctions.
• Maintain accurate daily logs and production records.
