Job summary

Railserve is hiring a Tamper Operator to operate rail-mounted tamping machines, align ballast, and maintain track geometry across sites in Indiana and surrounding regions. The role requires travel to multiple job sites and adherence to safety standards in outdoor environments.

We value reliability, safety-focused mindset, and teamwork. A high school diploma or GED and 1–2 years of railroad maintenance experience are preferred. CDL may be required by jurisdiction; company training is provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required or preferred.
• 1–2 years of railroad maintenance or rail-bound machinery experience.
• Valid driver’s license; CDL may be required depending on jurisdiction.
• Certification for railway equipment operation (FRA-compliant or company-specific).

Responsibilities

• Operate rail-mounted tamper machines to align, level, and compact ballast.
• Read track diagrams and work orders; follow safety procedures.
• Perform pre-operation inspections and basic maintenance on tamping equipment.
• Coordinate with Track Supervisor and MOW crew to ensure safety and efficiency.
• Maintain daily logs and production records.
