Job summary

The Northwest School is seeking a Track & Field Varsity Assistant Coach for the spring season in Seattle, WA. You will support the head coach, teach fundamentals and tactics, and promote safety and character development among athletes.

Responsibilities include building a cohesive squad, demonstrating technical skills, and maintaining standards in competition and sportsmanship under the supervision of the Athletic Director.

• WIAA coaching education training required.
• Clear Washington State background check.

The Track & Field Varsity Assistant Coaches will report to and be supervised by the Athletic Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Support the head coach in all aspects of coaching the team and program.
• Teach fundamentals, techniques, and skills, utilizing positive and developmentally appropriate methods.
• Prioritize the health and safety of the athletes.
• Generate enthusiasm, commitment, and teamwork among students for the program.
• Model respectful interaction and sportsmanship with athletes, opponents, colleagues, and parents, and emphasize sportsmanship and leadership with athletes.
• Philosophical alignment with striving to win while promoting the bigger picture of character, commitment, and team supportiveness.
• Maintain WIAA coaching standards via the WIAA T&F rules clinic, general rules clinic, concussion management training, sudden cardiac arrest training, coaches’ education training, and First Aid/CPR certification.
• Work cooperatively with NWS colleagues.
• Understand and adhere to sport rules and regulations.
• Be an energetic self-starter.

Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications

• Expertise and experience coaching the sport at the high school or collegiate level.
• Willingness to complete needed WIAA coaches’ education training sessions.
• Clear Washington State Background check.

Compensation/Details

Competitive coaching stipend ranges from $3,377 to $4,279, based on experience. This is a stipend only position. Season officially starts March 1, 2027, and ends May 29, 2027.

Availability

Monday-Friday, and some Saturdays from March 1, 2027, through May 29, 2027.
