Job summary

Centinela Valley Union High School District invites applications for an Assistant Coach - Track and Field at Hawthorne High School for the 2026-2027 school year. The role supports the Head Coach, assists in developing multiple levels of competition, supervises players, and contributes to the program’s overall success.

The successful candidate will follow CIF rules, maintain student safety, and coordinate with athletics staff to implement conditioning plans and playing strategies.

Qualifications

• Experience playing or coaching the sport
• Ability to explain, demonstrate, and analyze fundamental skills and strategies
• Ability to meet all CIF Coaching requirements and certifications
• Ability to communicate with and maintain effective relationships with all stakeholders
• Knowledge of CIF Rules and Regulations pertaining to the sport applying
• Two years of varsity coaching experience (Desirable)
• Experience as a college or professional athlete (Desirable)
• Demonstrated success with development of a high-achieving academic team (Desirable)

Responsibilities

• Supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and sportsmanship.
• Prepare field/courts on Game Day and support Head Coach logistics.
• Use instructional techniques and media to improve student-athletes’ abilities.
• Assess players’ skills and contribute to game strategy as determined by Head Coach.
• Maintain nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
• Attend staff development meetings and related activities to improve coaching performance.
