Job summary

Analytical Mechanics Associates (AMA) seeks a Material Response Modeling Engineer to support NASA Ames Research Center (ARC) in Moffett Field, CA. You will contribute to the PATO material-response software and develop computational models for TPS materials under extreme aerothermal conditions.

The role involves interdisciplinary collaboration, HPC simulations, and reporting results through technical papers and proposals. U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required due to export control.

Qualifications

• M.S. or Ph.D. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Chemical, Materials Science and Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or related discipline.
• Candidates near completion of a Ph.D. are encouraged to apply.
• Demonstrated experience with computational modeling, scientific computing, or numerical simulation related to material response, heat transfer, reacting flows, ablation, or multiphysics.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and apply open-source material-response software (PATO).
• Develop computational models for TPS material response in extreme environments.
• Model thermal decomposition, pyrolysis, charring, oxidation, recession, spallation, phase change, and gas transport.
• Create efficient, scalable numerical methods for coupled physics problems.
• Perform and support large-scale HPC simulations.
• Collaborate with computational modelers, material scientists, and NASA researchers.
