Job summary

Analytical Mechanics Associates (AMA) seeks a Material Response Modeling Engineer to support NASA ARC in Moffett Field, CA. Work on open-source PATO, model TPS material response, and verify against arc-jet data in a multi-disciplinary team.

Position requires on-site work in California, with travel as needed. Advanced degree preferred; MS with strong experience also considered. Salary ranges from $120,000 to $180,000 depending on expertise and education.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in Aerospace, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
• Experience with computational modeling, scientific computing, or numerical simulation.
• Strong programming skills in C++ and Python.
• Familiarity with HPC and large-scale workflows.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and apply NASA's open-source PATO material-response software.
• Create computational models for TPS materials in extreme environments.
• Validate models against arc-jet and high-temperature test data.
• Develop scalable numerical methods for flow-material interactions.
• Collaborate across modeling, materials, and NASA researchers.
