Job summary

Canopy Aerospace & Defense in Littleton, CO seeks a TPS design engineer to own end-to-end TPS components and lead material trade studies. You will collaborate with aerothermal, design, materials, and test teams to translate heat flux into robust mechanical designs.

You will develop detailed CAD drawings, ICDs, and interface directly with manufacturing, ensuring parts meet spec while supporting arc-jet testing and data-driven iteration.

Qualifications

• 4+ years designing and owning TPS components or assemblies qualified through flight/high-enthalpy testing
• Knowledge of TPS materials & architectures (thermal blankets, ablative carbon composites, ceramics, cryogenic insulation)
• Lifecycle design from concept to manufacturing including 3D CAD, drawing release, and GD&T
• Strong foundation in structural mechanics, materials science, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and ablation
• Proven ability to deliver hardware on accelerated schedules
• US Security Clearance Eligibility: Active Secret or ability to obtain one

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end TPS components and subassemblies from requirements through hardware delivery
• Lead material trade studies balancing thermal survivability, structure, and manufacturability
• Collaborate with aerothermal, design, materials, and test teams to translate heat flux into robust designs
• Develop CAD drawings, ICDs, and interface with manufacturing to ensure parts meet spec
• Support testing campaigns (arc-jet) and perform data reduction to iterate designs
• Serve as TPS SME, keeping current on state-of-the-art and next-gen tech
• Lead sections of proposals and new products to advance defense growth objectives
