The Town of Farragut is seeking a full-time Town Planner to lead the Planning Department, overseeing zoning, subdivisions, and related activities under the Director of Public Services. The role requires a Master’s degree and substantial experience in municipal planning.
Starting pay is $102,690 annually with a range up to $131,572, plus a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, and retirement contributions.

The starting rate of pay is $102,690 (min) to $131,572 (mid) annually, salary exempt.

Performs difficult skilled technical work coordinating the future orderly growth and development of the Town of Farragut. Work is performed under the supervision of the Director of Public Services.

Comprehensive knowledge of legislation, codes and ordinances pertaining to community development and planning; comprehensive knowledge of the advanced principles and practices of urban planning and community development; comprehensive knowledge of economics, municipal finance, physical and environmental planning, and architecural design, as they apply to urban planning; comprehensive knowledge of current literature and recent developments in the field; general knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering, surveying, landsape architecture, and architecture as they relate to planning and subdivision design and control; comprehensive skill creating and modifying community development and planning documents; comprehensive skill analyzing census and GIS data and reports; comprehensive skill operating standard office equipment, hardware and software; comprehensive skill operating standard tools of the trade; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals; ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages; ability to understand and apply governmental accounting practices in maintenance of financial records; ability to effectively organize thoughts and speak in front of groups; ability to interpret and analyze technical and statistical information and to prepare and present technical oral and written reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, officials, consultants, developers, design professionals, other government agencies and the general public.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Masters Degree in Planning, Civil Engineering, or closely related field and a minimum of eight to ten years experience working in a Planning Department; excellent organizational, interpersonal, analytical and decision making skills; strong mathematical and communication skills; extensive knowledge of municipal codes and state and federal regulations regarding land use and environmental issues; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires reaching, standing, walking, and fingering; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness or work, and observing surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
Tennessee department of environment and conservation erosion prevention and sediment control certification within one (1) year of hire.
American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) required.
Valid driver's license in the State of Tennessee.
