Job summary

L. G. Everist, Inc. is seeking a Tower Operator to safely and efficiently operate the mining plant in Sioux Falls, SD. You will monitor conveyors, crushers, screens, and related equipment while maintaining high safety and cleanliness standards.

Responsibilities include daily equipment checks, reporting issues, and ensuring production runs smoothly with strict adherence to MSHA/OSHA/DOT regulations. A High School diploma or GED and a valid driver’s license are required.

  • Report equipment issues and required wear parts promptly to the supervisor.
  • Monitor plant operation to ensure safe, consistent production and noise/dust control.

Job Description

Department: Quarry

Reports to: Plant Manager

Job Summary: The primary responsibility of the Tower Operator is to safely and efficiently operate the mining plant.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Does not have any direct reports.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Must comply with all company safety and environmental policies as well as local, state, and federal regulations (OSHA, MSHA, DOT, EPA, SDDENR).
  • Display good communication skills, including the ability to understand and follow verbal and non-verbal directions and instructions.
  • Ensure crusher is level at all times.
  • Maintain site cleanliness, and perform general labor activities, including but not limited to shoveling in and around the belts and crusher.
  • Perform daily checks on conveyors, screen deck, and crusher box.
  • Report crusher issues and required wear parts to the supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Monitor the plant to ensure the plant is running safely and production is consistent.
  • Listen to unusual noise or indications for errors.
  • Monitor silica dust emissions and use dust suppression if needed.
  • Perform tracked conveyor moves as needed.
  • Adjust crusher settings to optimize performance and gradation.
  • Maintain strong communications with ground labor to ensure efficient and safe workflow.
  • Complete all necessary daily paperwork. This may include but is not limited to daily logs, vehicle inspection logs, hours of service, etc.
  • Inspects belt scale and clean daily & record scale readings.
  • Shut down equipment as required in the event of an emergency, blockages or end of shift.
  • Conduct daily pre-shift safety checks (area inspection, e-stops).
  • Adhere to and follow all safety rules and regulations of MSHA/OSHA/DOT.
  • Ensure nobody enters safety perimeter while operating the crushing plant.

  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to work safely in a team environment.
Education and Experience:
  • High School diploma or GED.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand, squat, bend, and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to tolerate working outdoors in all temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Ability to walk on uneven surfaces.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
