Job summary

Torchy’s Tacos in Glen Allen, VA is hiring a Prep Cook to handle daily food production per Torchy’s standards and recipes. You will maintain a clean kitchen, set up and break down your station, and follow the Taco Bible to ensure quality.

Responsibilities include masa production, tortilla pressing and cooking, FIFO inventory practices, and accurate yield tracking. Experience is a plus; 18+ years required. Benefits include career growth and team discounts.

Qualifications

• Must meet state and local requirements for Food Handler’s certification.
• Certification(s) must be obtained by your first day or within the timeline required by your location.
• Familiarity with kitchen equipment including fryer, char grill, flat top, stove, RoboCoups, immersion blender, dicers, mandolin, and scales.
• Physical ability to lift a minimum of 40 lbs.
• Basic knife safety, basic communication and reading, and ability to multi-task.
• Kitchen experience is a plus.
• Age requirement: 18 years or older.

Responsibilities

• Produce food items listed on the prep sheet according to Torchy’s standards and recipes.
• Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, including the walk-in and equipment.
• Set up and break down your station, ensuring readiness for shift and post-shift cleanliness.
• Follow all recipes and the Taco Bible to uphold Torchy’s food standards.
• Practice proper food safety and HACCP practices, including FIFO for inventory control.
• Record pre- and post-weights, track yields, and label/date pans for produced items.
• Rotate products as needed and assist with other duties as requested by management.
• Produce masa and press corn tortillas using a tortilla press.
• Slack flour tortilla dough balls and ensure proper booking of tortillas.
• Cook tortillas on a flat top to the correct specifications.
