Job summary

The Office of the Utah Attorney General, Litigation Division, has an immediate opening for an attorney to defend government entities and their employees in tort litigation. The ideal candidate would have 3 - 5 years of tort litigation experience in state and federal courts or jury trial experience.

Attorneys in the Torts Section are recognized as among Utah's legal elite; the role requires excellent written and oral advocacy, ability to take over a caseload, draft complex dispositive motions,

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate required.
• Utah State Bar membership required.
• Excellent written and oral advocacy skills.
• Travel may be required for civil litigation.

Responsibilities

• Prepares cases by conducting legal research and gathering evidence.
• Provides consultation, makes recommendations, gives appropriate advice, and/or facilitates decisions.
• Determines needs in discovery and participates in strategy sessions.
• Drafts litigation documents and correspondence.
• Represents the state in lawsuits, grievances, and complaints.
• Negotiates settlements and represents clients at hearings.
