Demgy Chicago is seeking an experienced Toolroom Supervisor to lead the Tooling Department while staying hands-on in moldmaking operations.

As a Journeyman Moldmaker and Toolroom Supervisor, you will guide the toolroom team, support production, engineering, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure quality, productivity, and on‑time delivery.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Position Summary

The Toolroom Supervisor is responsible for leading daily toolroom operations while serving as a technical expert in moldmaking and injection mold repair. This position combines hands‑on tooling responsibilities with leadership, mentoring, planning, and continuous improvement initiatives to support company quality, productivity, and on‑time delivery goals.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Required

• Journeyman Moldmaker certification or equivalent experience
• Extensive experience building, repairing, and maintaining injection molds
• Previous supervisory, lead, or management experience
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to work effectively with employees across departments
• Strong troubleshooting, machining, and mechanical abilities

Preferred

• Experience in medical, aerospace, or highly regulated manufacturing environments
• Experience mentoring apprentices and developing technical talent
• Knowledge of continuous improvement and lean manufacturing principles

Tooling Responsibilities

• Perform mold repairs and preventive maintenance activities.
• Evaluate mold condition and recommend improvements to enhance mold life and performance.
• Determine when tooling requires replacement or major repair.
• Build and maintain assembly fixtures and machining fixtures.
• Troubleshoot tooling issues impacting production, quality, or efficiency.
• Support production with timely tooling maintenance and repair services.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Refine and improve toolroom processes to support company quality and on‑time delivery objectives.
• Direct and manage day‑to‑day toolroom operations and personnel.
• Coordinate with Production and Engineering to establish tooling priorities and support requirements.
• Assign and monitor work to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
• Interface with external tooling vendors to ensure quality workmanship and on‑time completion of outsourced projects.
• Identify future personnel, equipment, and tooling requirements and make recommendations to site leadership.
• Mentor moldmaker apprentices and other developing employees.
• Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
