Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Mold Maker to be an integral part of our Tool Room team. The successful candidate will engage in the construction, maintenance, and repair of high-precision injection molds, playing a crucial role in the entire lifecycle of a tool—from initial build and assembly through to ongoing production support and troubleshooting. This role requires close collaboration with engineering, machining, and production teams to ensure that tooling consistently meets performance specifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Construct, assemble, and fit injection molds, including cores, cavities, inserts, slides, and components.
  • Conduct both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, repairs, and overhauls of molds.
  • Identify and resolve tooling issues affecting production, such as flash, short shots, wear, and dimensional drift.
  • Interpret complex blueprints, CAD models, and GD&T call-outs with precision.
  • Perform CNC and manual machining as needed to support tool construction and repairs.
  • Maintain tight tolerances consistently (±0.0005” or better).
  • Conduct spotting, fitting, and bench work to confirm proper mold fit and function.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and design teams on new tool launches and engineering change orders.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in mold making within an injection molding environment.
  • Strong knowledge of mold construction including cores, cavities, slides, lifters, and ejection systems.
  • Understanding of plastic flow, gate design, and their impact on part quality.
  • Proficiency in mold spotting, fitting, assembly, and bench work.
  • Experience with CNC and/or manual machining to support tool builds and repairs.
Technical Skills
  • CNC Milling — 3-axis minimum; multi-axis experience is advantageous.
  • Surface grinding and conventional machining skills.
  • EDM experience — sinker and/or wire (highly preferred).
  • Familiarity with metrology and inspection tools such as micrometers, indicators, height gauges, and CMM.
  • Solid understanding of shop math, including trigonometry, geometry, and tolerance stack-up calculations.
What Sets Top Candidates Apart
  • Experience with complex tooling including multi-cavity, hot runner systems, family molds, or tight-tolerance medical/aerospace tools.
  • Proven troubleshooting skills with the ability to trace issues to root causes.
  • Systems thinking with an understanding of how components affect overall mold performance.
  • Craftsmanship and pride in producing high-quality work.
Why Join Us
  • Join a stable, growing operation with a consistent demand for tooling and no seasonal slowdowns.
  • Engage in complex, high-precision work across various mold types and materials.
  • Benefit from a clear development path for machinists ready to advance into mold making.
  • Enjoy competitive compensation, consistent overtime opportunities and a comprehensive benefits package.
