Job summary

SIG SAUER, Inc is seeking a Toolmaker I to set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts. You will support senior toolmakers and collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing and Quality in a team environment.

The role requires 3-5 years machining experience, knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, layout, and GD&T, with a focus on accuracy, safety, and adherence to ISO procedures. This on-site position emphasizes teamwork and reliability.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent; AS degree in Applied Science or Machine Tool or 3–5 years of experience.
• Ability to apply geometry and trigonometry.
• Reading blueprints with GD&T knowledge.
• Experience in milling, turning, grinding, and basic machine programming.
• Experience with metrology, fixtures, and quality control.
• Clear verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The Toolmaker I will setup and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts. It is responsible for providing support to all senior level Toolmakers. They be tasked with many of the basic machining functions in the preliminary execution of various machining projects. The Toolmaker I position requires knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures, and 3-5 years of machining experience. Working both independently and in a team environment, the Toolmaker I will collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing and Quality.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide support and assistance to all tool room team members. Assist prototype team members as requested.
• Fabricate simple jigs and fixtures to complete assigned jobs with supervision.
• Determine fabrication process and sequence with minimal assistance.
• Work in a 2D environment to tolerances of +/- .001.
• Keep a safe, clean, and organized work area.
• Communicate effectively to supervision regarding problems and corrective action.
• Participate in 5S workplace organizational activities and maintain the area in good working order through sustainment activities.
• Must follow all required Safety and ISO procedures.
• Regular on-site attendance and punctuality is a necessary function of this position.
• May be required to work in other functional areas and/or facilities depending on business needs.
• May be required to work overtime or alternate shifts based on business needs.
• Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Education/Experience & Skills:

• High School diploma or equivalent, Associate’s degree in Applied Science or Machine Tool, 3-5 years of previous experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Possess an understanding and the ability to apply both geometry and trigonometry.
• Proficiency in reading and understanding blueprints, and knowledge of Geometric Design and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Applicable equivalent experience is considered advanced milling, turning, grinding, machine programming, CAD/CAM, metrology, quality control, fixture design and fabrication, EDM, heat treatment, and OSHA.
• Ability to use various precision measuring instruments including micrometers, indicators, and both optical and physical gaging.
• Basic knowledge of troubleshooting machinery and basic knowledge of metallurgy.
• Must be able to clearly, concisely, and accurately convey ideas and information to others, both verbally and in written form.

Working Conditions:

• Regularly perform repetitive tasks.
• Work is primarily standing (90 + % of the shift) except for lunch and break periods.
• Shifts are 8 hours, 10 hours, and 12 hours.
• The duties of this job normally require exposure to a typical manufacturing environment. Frequent standing, sitting, stooping, squatting, walking, and stair climbing can be expected along with frequent lifting and/or moving of tooling, parts containers, and materials up to 40 pounds.
• Must be able to reach with hands and arms, bend and kneel frequently at a minimum of 50% of the shift, as well as undergo repetitive wrist, hand, elbow, shoulder, and ankle motions.
• Must demonstrate proficient fine motor skills, ability to grip, reach, pull, turn, and use tools to torque fixtures in various machinery or in the assembly, machining, or testing of parts.
• Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception, and the ability to focus on fine print.
• Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
• Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. security mandates.
