Job summary

RENK America in Muskegon, MI seeks a skilled Toolmaker (3rd Shift) under UAW representation to construct, maintain, and modify tooling and precision components used in manufacturing operations. You will work with CNC machines, perform programming, setup, and in-process inspection from engineering drawings.

Responsibilities

• Operate CNC equipment; program, setup, run, and inspect parts from drawings.
• Repair and maintain tooling, fixtures, gauges, and processes.
• Independently work on shop floor CNC equipment and use G/M codes.
• Identify fault, troubleshoot, and minimize downtime; repair fixtures and pallets as needed.
• Report breakdown root causes and participate in continuous improvement.
• Carry out planned maintenance and tool modifications; manufacture tooling and spares.

Toolmaker (3rd Shift) UAW represented position

Position Summary: The Toolmaker A (3rd Shift) position is a UAW Local 113 represented role responsible for the construction, maintenance, repair, and modification of tooling, fixtures, gauges, and precision components used in manufacturing operations. Working on 3rd shift, this position plays a critical role in supporting continuous production, minimizing downtime, and ensuring the quality and reliability of manufacturing processes.

Under guidance of the department supervisor, execute the following:

• Experienced CNC / Tool & Die machinist to work with Computer Numeric Controlled machinery capable of programming, performing setup, running and in process inspection of machined parts made from engineering drawings, using various types of metal.
• Independently work on shop floor CNC equipment. Must be able to use G/M codes to move the machine into position for any repair/fixture work.
• Attend to breakdowns, identify fault and problem solve at the machine with minimal downtime to aid production. Able to indicate and align fixtures, pallets as required. Evaluate each case to determine where and how each repair must be performed.
• Estimate length of time required to complete a job and likely consequences of failure to complete work within required timescales
• Report breakdown root causes, equipment faults and concerns to management
• Repair and maintain fixtures, gages, and processes.
• Routine servicing and regrinding of tools.
• Identify and escape any activity that has the potential to cause harm or damage.
• Ensure all work is undertaken to a high-quality standard and performed proficiently.
• Manufacture new tooling and ancillary spares to support production activity and customer deadlines.
• Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance
• Carry out engineering level changes to tools and modifications
• Always maintain the highest standards of workmanship
• Be actively involved in improvement activities to support the achievement of departmental and company objectives
• Responsible for daily housekeeping, to include cleaning machines, tools, cabinets, sweeping of chips off floor and overall workplace organization.
• Undertake special projects as required
• Attend various meetings as required.
• Any and all other duties as assigned by Management
• Display positive and cooperative attitude to performing work assignments

Position Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Must be a Journeyman Toolmaker with CNC Experience
• Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job
• In lieu of experience, must be willing to take classes in CNC programming/Mastercam using the tuition reimbursement program. Must demonstrate proficiency upon completion.
