Job summary

Sonoco Products in Chatham, NY is seeking a Tooling Technician III to support mold maintenance and operate precision machining equipment. This full‑time role offers a competitive wage up to $37.73 per hour with a sign‑on bonus up to $2,500.

You will read mold prints, use metrology tools, work with hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems, and coordinate with processing, production and maintenance teams to minimize downtime and improve quality.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years in machine shop or mold maintenance.
• Basic understanding of electrical circuits and hydraulics.
• Metrology knowledge and basic mechanical aptitude.
• Windows-based PC skills.
• MIG or TIG welding experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Follow safety and housekeeping procedures.
• Operate milling, lathe turning, grinding, and polishing.
• Read mold prints and 3D renderings.
• Document mold set-ups and assembly procedures.

Job Summary

Position: Tooling Technician III
Location: Chatham, NY
Wage: Up to $37.73/hr
Shift: Swing shift – alternates one week, 7am–3pm and the next week 3pm–11pm OR 3rd shift – 11pm–7am
Sign‑on bonus: Up to $2,500

Responsibilities

• Understand, follow, and assist in developing all Safety and Housekeeping procedures.
• Operate machining equipment: milling, lathe turning, precision grinding and fine polishing.
• Use metrology equipment and document results.
• Read mold prints, 3D renderings and schematics.
• Work with hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems (cylinders, motors, valve gate, hot‑runner systems).
• Address injection‑molding issues such as cooling, venting and steel condition.
• Communicate effectively between processing, production and maintenance groups.
• Document mold set‑ups and assembly procedures.
• Follow priorities from IQMS and scheduler for daily mold setups and repairs.
• Perform preventative maintenance tasks documented in IQMS.

Requirements / Experience

• Minimum two years machine shop/mold maintenance experience and a high‑school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic understanding of electrical circuits and hydraulics.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and metrology knowledge.
• Working knowledge of Windows‑based PC programs.
• MIG or TIG welding experience a plus.
