Job description

Responsible for operating machine tools to produce precision metal parts for both small batches and large-scale production, ensuring all products meet exact specifications.

Responsibilities
  • Operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, CNC equipment, and grinders to manufacture metal components.
  • Review electronic or written blueprints and job specifications.
  • Calculate and determine appropriate cutting and boring dimensions.
  • Shape materials such as steel, aluminum, titanium, plastic, silicon, and other materials.
  • Determine feed rates and cutting speeds for optimal performance.
  • Identify the amount of material to be removed.
  • Select appropriate tools and materials for each job.
  • Plan the sequence of cutting and finishing operations.
  • Mark workpieces to indicate where cuts should be made.
  • Position workpieces on drill presses, lathes, or milling machines.
  • Monitor and control feed rate, speed, and machine performance.
  • Ensure proper lubrication and cooling of the workpiece.
  • Regulate workpiece temperature during operations.
  • Detect issues by observing machine performance and listening for irregular sounds.
  • Adjust cutting speeds to compensate for vibration or inconsistencies.
  • Monitor accuracy and quality of cuts throughout the process.
  • Replace worn or dull cutting tools as needed.
  • Verify finished work against blueprints and specifications.
  • Produce high-volume quantities of parts as required.
  • Determine how automated equipment will perform cutting operations.
  • Establish cutting paths and machining processes.
  • Convert cutting path, speed, and feed data into machine instructions.
  • Operate both manual and computer-controlled machinery.
  • Write and modify basic machine programs as needed.
Essential Functions
  • Understand and apply basic instructions related to safety procedures, quality standards, production goals, and company policies.
  • Use hand tools and operate machinery in routine, non-routine, simple, and complex environments.
  • Demonstrate strong hand–eye coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Work within established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • May be required to operate a forklift.
  • Maintain proper inventory of tooling and equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor, including but not limited to:
    • Ensuring quality standards are met
    • Reworking or repairing products
    • Supporting production needs as required

  • Capable of following detailed instructions, processes, and procedures.
  • Able to identify product defects and communicate issues to the appropriate personnel.

Required Education and Experience

Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Associate Degree preferred.

Experience: 1 to 3 years of relevant experience required; 3 to 5 years of experience preferred.
