Job summary

SMC Ltd. is seeking a Tooling Engineer III to support sustaining molding projects by providing internal tool cost estimates, managing the mold procurement process, and tracking all external tool activities.

The role requires collaboration with project engineers and suppliers to ensure on-time delivery and compliance with design standards. Ideal candidates hold a BS/MS in Engineering with at least 10 years in injection molding, strong communication, and proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks

Qualifications

  • BS/MS in Engineering (Plastics/Mechanical/Manufacturing).
  • 10+ years in injection molding, mold making/design, tool procurement.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Excellent time management and multitasking.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD; SolidWorks preferred.
  • English language proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Manage mold procurement from quoting to design and debug.
  • Oversee current tool suppliers and add new ones as needed.
  • Schedule tool deliveries and report mold progress to Project Engineers.
  • Conduct internal mold design reviews to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Implement tooling changes to meet customer specifications.
  • Support sales in customer meetings and design reviews.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by following safety policies.

Job Summary

The Tooling Engineer III supports sustaining molding projects by providing internal tool cost estimates, managing the mold procurement process, and tracking of all external tool activities.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage mold procurement process from quoting through design, construction, and mold debug.
  • Manage current tool suppliers, and develop appropriate new suppliers as required.
  • Schedule and track all tool deliveries. Report mold progress to Project Engineers and ensure on time delivery.
  • Conduct internal mold design reviews to ensure appropriate design and compliance with mold building standards.
  • Implement tooling changes as required to comply with customer quality specifications.
  • Support the sales function by participating in customer meetings and product design reviews.
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment by following all company safety policies and procedures.
Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor or Master of Science in Engineering, emphasis on Plastics, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in injection molding focused on mold making, mold design, and tool procurement.
  • Capable of multi-tasking, organized, excellent time management skills.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
  • Strong technical and proposal writing skills. Must have strong presentation skills.
  • Ability to exercise strong judgment in analyzing, evaluating and solving problems.
  • Working knowledge of 3D CAD software. Solidworks is preferred.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience within medical device manufacturing.

  • Stand, walk, bend, squat, twist, reach or otherwise move frequently
  • Occasional repetitive motion and grasping
  • Occasional climbing to reach areas on machines or racks
  • Lift, move or otherwise transfer up to 50 lbs. occasionally, >20 lbs. frequently
  • Typically sits, grasps items or performs keyboarding for occasional operation of a computer
  • Exposure to typical machine shop physical hazards which may require respiratory protection
  • Travel by air or car frequently
