Job summary

Plastic Molding Technology (PMT) in Centennial, CO, is seeking a tooling engineer to manage molding tools for injection molding and thermoforming. You will design components to improve tooling performance and organize tool storage and maintenance programs.

The role requires a technical plastics engineering background or equivalent experience, with experience in tooling, GD&T, and proficiency in SolidWorks/CREO.

Qualifications

• Technical degree (Plastics Engineering) or equivalent experience.
• Experience in injection molding tooling, quality, design, or manufacturing.
• GD&T understanding.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks, CREO, or other 3D modeling tools.
• Experience with DelmiaWorks IQMS is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Manage molds and tooling for injection molding and thermoforming processes.
• Design and develop molding components to maintain or enhance tooling performance.
• Organize tool storage and movement processes.
• Develop and monitor tooling maintenance protocols and schedules.
• Monitor tool conditions and assist with maintenance as needed.
• Evaluate repair needs and draft repair plans.
• Communicate with vendors for proper tool care.
• Participate in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Mold Flow Analysis (MFA) for new tooling.
• Oversee tools using Asset Management in the ERP system.
• Assist with tooling quotes for customers.
• Assist with movement and setting of molds in presses.

Plastic Molding Technology (PMT) manufactures high precision plastic parts for automotive, telecommunications, medical device, renewable energy, and industrial customers. The primary manufacturing processes are injection molding and thermoforming. PMT has ~100 injection molding presses at its two primary manufacturing locations in El Paso, TX and Centennial, CO (a suburb of Denver).

What you'll do

• Manage molds and tooling for injection molding and thermoforming manufacturing process.
• Design and develop molding components to assist with maintaining or enhancing performance of tooling.
• Organize and maintain tool storage activities and tool movement processes.
• Develop and monitor tooling maintenance protocols and schedules.
• Monitor and maintain tool conditions and assist with tool maintenance as needed.
• Evaluate repair needs and conduct repair analyses with accompanying repair plans.
• Communicate with vendors as needed to facilitate proper tool care.
• Participate in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and evaluation of Mold Flow Analysis (MFA) for new construction of tools.
• Oversight and maintenance of molds and tools utilizing Asset Management in the ERP system.
• Assist with the quoting of new tooling for customers.
• Assist with the movement and setting of molds in presses, as needed.

What we’re looking for

• Technical degree (Plastics Engineering) or Equivalent Experience
• 0-4 years of experience in an Engineering role supporting injection molding (tooling, quality, design, manufacturing, etc.)
• Forklift certified a plus
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Good understanding of GD&T
• Computer literate including software programs
• Good understanding of Solidworks, CREO, or other parametric modeling software
• Experience with DelmiaWorks IQMS
• Analytical/problem-solving capabilities
• Ability to multi-task and be detail-oriented
• Ability to take on a leadership role
