Job summary

Barnhart Energy Company in Chesapeake, VA seeks a dependable Tool Room Technician to organize, inventory, inspect, and distribute tools and equipment for yard and field operations. You will issue, receive, and track items and ensure safety and accuracy.

This full-time position runs Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, with 40 hours weekly and overtime opportunities. Benefits include a 401(k) plan with company match up to 10%, health coverage after 90 days, paid time off, and long‑term

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Experience in a tool room, warehouse, construction, rigging, or similar environment preferred.
• Basic computer skills and familiarity with inventory tracking systems.
• Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills are essential.
• Attention to detail and commitment to safety.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Issue, receive, and track tools, equipment, and supplies for employees and project crews.
• Maintain accurate inventory records using company systems.
• Inspect tools and equipment for damage, wear, and safety compliance.
• Organize, clean, and store tools and equipment in designated locations.
• Coordinate repairs, maintenance, and replacement of damaged equipment.
• Receive, unpack, and verify shipments of tools, parts, and supplies.
• Assist with inventory audits and cycle counts.
• Monitor tool usage and report shortages or concerns.
• Prepare equipment for field deployment and project mobilization.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized tool room and work area.
• Support yard operations and other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Do

What You Bring

We're looking for dependable, organized team members who take pride in supporting operations and maintaining high standards.

Required:

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience in a tool room, warehouse, construction, rigging, industrial, or similar environment preferred.
• Basic computer skills and familiarity with inventory tracking systems.
• Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
• Attention to detail and commitment to safety.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred:

• Valid driver's license.
• Forklift certification or experience operating material-handling equipment.
• Knowledge of hand tools, power tools, rigging equipment, and construction equipment.
• Team player with a go-getter attitude
• Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
• Additional Expectations:
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Commitment to maintaining a clean, organized, and safe workplace.

Work Environment

• Monday-Friday, 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM
