This is a hands‑on leadership position for an experienced machinist/toolmaker who understands the importance of precision, quality, safety, project execution, and team development. The successful candidate will help improve Tool Room efficiency, quality, and turnaround time while serving as the primary point of contact for Tool Room services and projects.

This is a full-time, business hours day‑shift scheduled position and will report directly to the Engineering and Maintenance Manager at our Omaha, NE facility.

What Makes This Role Different?

This isn't simply a supervisory position. You'll be a working leader within the Tool Room, providing technical direction while helping the team move projects from planning and design through machining, testing, tuning, and final implementation.

You’ll have the opportunity to influence tooling quality, project turnaround, process improvements, and the development of skilled machinists and toolmakers.

What You'll Do:
  • Lead toolmakers and machinists through all stages of projects, including planning, creation, testing, try-out, and implementation.
  • Develop project timelines, drawings, specifications, and other requirements based on project parameters.
  • Assign and supervise work to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and according to specifications.
  • Oversee tooling try-outs, tuning, adjustments, and first‑part approval.
  • Supervise and support internal toolmakers and machinists throughout project execution.
  • Lead efforts to improve Tool Room efficiency, quality, productivity, and turnaround time.
  • Motivate, develop, coach, and evaluate team members while addressing performance issues in a timely manner.
  • Maintain an efficient, productive, and safe work environment.
  • Procure materials, tooling, and services from outside suppliers as needed.
  • Coordinate and manage outside toolmaker and specialty services.
  • Schedule and assign repairs, sharpening, modifications, and tooling upgrades.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for requests for Tool Room services.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and provide notes and supervision for department meetings.
  • Review and reconcile Tool Room invoices and billing.
  • Set up and operate machine tools, including adjusting stops, feeds, and speeds for efficient machining.
  • Perform the duties of subordinate employees when necessary to support department operations.
  • Assist with recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, and developing Tool Room employees.
  • Enforce plant rules, company policies, quality requirements, and safety regulations.
What We’re Looking For
  • Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of machinery and equipment.
  • CNC machining knowledge and experience.
  • Ability to read and understand complex drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Ability to use and interpret precision measuring equipment.
  • Strong mechanical reasoning and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to visually inspect equipment and tooling to identify necessary adjustments.
  • Ability to understand and follow technical instructions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects involving machinists and toolmakers.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, management, suppliers, and other departments.
  • Strong organizational and project‑management skills.
  • Ability to work safely and effectively in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience using CAD/CAM software for design and equipment programming.
  • Ability to adhere to all organizational policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Stable work history with relevant technical training, education, and applicable experience.
Work Environment

This position works in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and areas with limited climate control. The position may require strenuous physical work and hands‑on operation of machinery and equipment.

Employees are expected to use the tools and equipment necessary to safely perform the duties of the trade.
