Midstate Spring in Syracuse, NY is seeking a skilled toolmaker or aspiring machinist to join our in-house Tool Room. You’ll sharpen, repair, and fabricate tooling using mills, lathes, grinders, and CNC equipment, reading blueprints, and maintaining tight tolerances.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of experience in manufacturing, machining, or tool room environment.
• Confidence with machine tools—manual or CNC.
• Comfortable using precision measuring instruments and basic shop math.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings.
• Experience with tool steels and heat treatment processes.

Responsibilities

• Sharpen and rework die sections, punches, and cut-off tools with precision.
• Fabricate or repair tooling and fixtures for springmaking operations.
• Use mills, grinders, lathes, band saws, CNC equipment.
• Interpret blueprints and drawings for complex tooling components.
• Measure with calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and comparators.
• Work with tool steels like O-1, A-2, and D-2; apply heat treatment.
