Job summary

Rolls‑Royce Power Systems in North America seeks a Tool Management Technician to support CNC and conventional machining centers in the crankcase manufacturing area. You will focus on accurate tool presetting, tool crib and inventory management, and assisting machine operators to keep production reliable.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED with apprenticeship/3 years tooling management experience, or an Associate degree; off‑shift hours 7:30pm–6:00am, Monday night to Thursday night,

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma / GED plus apprenticeship or 3 years tooling management experience in heavy‑duty machining.
  • Off‑Shift hours are 7:30pm to 6:00am, Monday night through Thursday night.
  • Authorised to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Adjust and align tools and modify systems on pre‑set equipment according to machining specifications.
  • Set and change specialty and standard tools in machining centres, including MAPAL reamers and standard tooling systems.
  • Preset and measure tools on a tool presetting device, record values, and verify tool coding where applicable.
  • Assemble and re‑work new, re‑worked, and prototype tools for tool crib operations and compile workpiece‑related tool sets.
  • Prepare and set up fixtures according to fixture drawings, check and set new fixtures, and document zero points in the setup sheet.
  • Assess tooling re‑work capability based on tooling attributes and machining requirements.
  • Verify the quality of tooling by inspecting it against templates and measuring dimensions.

Job Summary

The Tool Management Technician prepares presets, assembles, and provides tools and fixtures for the CNC and conventional machining centres in the crankcase manufacturing area. The role focuses on accurate tool presetting and assembly, tool crib and inventory management, and supporting machine operators to keep production running reliably.

Responsibilities
  • Adjust and align tools and modify systems on pre‑set equipment according to machining specifications.
  • Set and change specialty and standard tools in machining centres, for example MAPAL reamers from single diameter to multi‑diameter, as well as standard tooling systems.
  • Preset and measure tools on a tool presetting device, record the values on the data carrier, and set and verify tool coding where applicable.
  • Assemble and re‑work new tools, re‑worked tools and prototype tools for tool crib operations, and compile workpiece‑related tool sets ready for pickup.
  • Prepare and set up fixtures according to fixture drawings, check and set new fixtures, and document zero points in the setup sheet.
  • Assess tooling re‑work capability based on tooling attributes and machining requirements.
  • Verify the quality of tooling by inspecting it, comparing it to templates, measuring its dimensions, or testing it.
Position Qualifications
  • High School Diploma / GED and completion of an apprenticeship or training programme, or 3 years of previous experience in mechanical, electrical or industrial tooling management in a heavy‑duty machining environment.
  • Shift: Off‑Shift hours are 7:30pm to 6:00am, Monday night through Thursday night.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Applicants must be authorised to work for any employer in the U.S. without sponsorship. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree in mechanical, electrical or industrial maintenance.
  • Ability to obtain appropriate hoists and power vehicle licences (Flatbed, Hi‑Lo, & Mule) when necessary.
  • Basic knowledge of a variety of machines and tools such as measuring devices, power tools, taps or dies, and hoists, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
  • Basic knowledge of inventory control systems, manufacturing and production processes, raw materials, quality control, costs and other techniques for maximising the effective manufacture of goods.
  • Intermediate mechanic skills including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, lubrication and repair of production machines.
  • Knowledge of MTU products, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of heavy‑duty diesel engine manufacturing.
