Job summary

Rolls-Royce is seeking a Tool Management Technician (Tool Setter) for off-shift in Aiken, SC. The role involves preparing presets, assembling tools and fixtures for CNC and conventional machining centers in crankcase manufacturing, and supporting machine operators to keep production running reliably.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent with apprenticeship or equivalent tool-management experience, or 3 years in heavy-duty machining tooling.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED and completion of an apprenticeship or training program, or 3 years of previous experience in mechanical, electrical, or industrial tooling management in a heavy‑duty machining environment.
  • Shift: Off‑Shift hours are 7:30pm to 6:00am, Monday night through Thursday night.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed

Responsibilities

  • Adjust and align tools and modify systems on pre-set equipment according to machining specifications
  • Set and change specialty and standard tools in machining centers, for example MAPAL reamers from single diameter to multi-diameter, as well as standard tooling systems
  • Preset and measure tools on a tool presetting device, record the values on the data carrier, and set and verify tool coding where applicable
  • Assemble and reassemble new tools, re-worked tools, and prototype tools for tool crib operations, and compile workpiece‑related tool sets ready for pickup
  • Prepare and set up fixtures according to fixture drawings, check and set new fixtures, and document zero points in the setup sheet
  • Assess tooling re-work capability based on tooling attributes and machining requirements
  • Verify the quality of tooling by inspecting it, comparing it to templates, measuring its dimensions, or testing it.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance.
  • Ability to obtain appropriate hoists and power vehicle licenses (Flatbed, Hi‑Lo, & Mule) when necessary.
  • Basic knowledge of a variety of machines and tools such as measuring devices, power tools, taps or dies, and hoists, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Basic knowledge of inventory control systems, manufacturing and production processes, raw materials, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture of goods.
  • Intermediate mechanic skills including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, lubrication, and repair of production machines.
  • Knowledge of MTU products, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of heavy‑duty diesel engine manufacturing.
Pay Range

$25.11 - $37.67 per hour.
