Qualifications

• Proven ability to read complex blueprints, schematics, and drawings.
• Experience operating a variety of precision machine tools (lathe, mill, grinder, EDM).
• Strong knowledge of GD&T and precision metrology.
• Understanding of metallurgy and heat treatment relevant to tooling.
• Ability to design, build, and repair jigs, fixtures, gauges, and production tooling.
• Familiarity with CMMs and other inspection tools.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate, alter, and repair tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges.
• Interpret blueprints, schematics, and drawings to determine specs.

Key Responsibilities

• Fabricate, alter, and repair a variety of tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges.
• Interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and engineering drawings to determine specifications and dimensions.
• Set up and operate a wide range of machine tools, including lathes, mills, grinders, and EDMs.
• Perform precision measurements using specialized instruments to ensure conformity to tight tolerances.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to tool performance, wear, and breakage.
• Conduct preventative maintenance on tools and equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
• Collaborate with engineers and production teams to optimize tool design and manufacturing processes.

Recommended Qualifications

• Proven ability to interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
• Demonstrated expertise in operating a variety of precision machine tools (e.g., lathes, mills, grinders, EDMs).
• Proficient in the use of various measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, CMMs).
• Strong understanding of metallurgy, heat treatment, and material properties relevant to tool manufacturing.
• Ability to design, build, and repair jigs, fixtures, gauges, and production tooling.
• Solid comprehension of GD&T principles and application.

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with CNC programming (G-code).
• Certification in a relevant trade (e.g., machining, tool and die making).
• Familiarity with CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
• Ability to mentor junior tool makers or apprentices.
• Experience with precision measurement tools beyond basic calipers and micrometers (e.g., CMM, optical comparators).
