Job summary

Autokiniton in Meridian, MS is seeking a skilled machinist to join our tooling and die team. You will read blueprints, plan setups, select cutting tools, and operate various machine shop equipment to produce parts to exact specifications.

This role emphasizes safety, precision, and teamwork. You will perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot tooling, and assist others during production runs, with opportunities to advance through formal apprenticeship credentials.

Responsibilities

• Wears all required safety equipment and ensures area and environment is safe.
• Performs preventative maintenance as required.
• Reads and interprets blueprints or works from verbal or written instructions or from the part to be copied or fitted.
• Plans the setup and operation of all types of machine shop tools, considering materials, tolerances, cutting tools, coolants, lubricants, and feeds/speeds.
• Heat-treats and welds parts as required.
• Determines specifications for inspection using precision measuring tools and performs required inspection before, during and after machining.
• Does hand operations involved in producing jigs, fixtures, tools and dies; uses hand tools of the trade.
• Fits and assembles jigs, fixtures, tools and dies; tests dies to production specs and traces issues to source.
• Tear down, repairs and reassembles tooling as required.
• Assists other tool room personnel with troubleshooting.
• Assists Press Operators with tooling troubleshooting during production runs.
• Maintains high precision and careful handling to avoid damage.
• Maintains safety to prevent injuries while operating tools.
• Possesses good troubleshooting skills.
• Able to pull and set-up tooling.
• Process hourly/daily paperwork as required.
• Other duties as required.

Job description

• Perform preventative maintenance as required


• Clean and organize area, keep area free of clutter and safety hazards – 6S


• Reads and interprets blueprints or works from verbal or written instructions or from the part to be copied or fitted


• Plans the setup and operation of all types of machine shop tools, considering types of material, tolerances, types of cutting tools, coolants, lubricants and machine tool feeds and speeds


• Heat-treats and welds parts as required


• Determines specifications for inspection of work, using precision measuring and gaging tools, performing required inspection before, during and after machining


• Does hand operations involved in producing jigs, fixtures, tools and dies. Uses hand tools of the trade


• Fits and assembles jigs, fixtures, tools and dies. Sets up, runs off and tests dies to produce a product to specifications, tracing die difficulties to their source and correcting same


• Tear down, repairs and reassembles tooling on the bench or in the press as required


• Assists other tool room personnel with troubleshooting skills or ideas


• Assists Press Operators with troubleshooting tooling during production runs


• High degree of precision and control in work where damage could be high and where muscular control and delicate touch are required


• High degree of attention and care required, preventing injury to self and others when operating machine tools.


• Possess good troubleshooting skills

• Must have valid forklift operator’s license (or be willing to be trained before starting job assignment)


• Process hourly/daily paperwork as required


• Does in-press P.M.’s as scheduled
