Job description

Position Summary

Plan, construct, alter, and repair a wide variety of tools, dyes, fixtures, and machinery where accurate relationship and fitting requires maintenance of very close tolerances. Perform all duties necessary to the efficient operation of all equipment in the plant.

Responsibilities
  • Operate all tool room equipment such as lathes, milling machines, grinding machines, etc.
  • Construct tools, jogs, fixtures, and special machines from drawings or when design is limited.
  • Use constructed tools to diagnose and correct problems.
  • Set up and operate all tool room equipment, including mills, lathes, CNC equipment, and EDM.
  • Attend training courses in job‑related topics and equipment, then communicate that training to others.
  • Follow constant safety precautions when constructing, altering, or debugging special machinery.
  • Participate actively in department and process team activities and projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Meet standard work requirements and follow them consistently.
  • Use computer programs to record data, create labels, print tooling layouts, obtain prints and specifications, print ship‑sets, etc.
  • Promote positive teamwork and foster professionalism among associates and internal/external customers.
  • Work safely in accordance with regulations, standards, and procedures to eliminate risk to health and the environment; notify leadership of unsafe conditions or activities presenting health or environmental risk; report all safety or environmental incidents immediately.
  • Participate in peer‑based teams such as Natural High Performance Teams and work with groups to implement programs like Lean Manufacturing and 5‑S.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Journeyman Card in Tool & Die preferred.
  • Journeyman Card in Machining.
  • Currently in a Journeyman Apprentice program with a minimum of 2 years of machining work.
  • Successful completion of a 4‑year formal apprenticeship program (Journeyman Toolmaker).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Tool & Die working on maintaining form tooling work.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a machinist operating manual and CNC machines to make tooling and custom parts.
  • 5‑7 years of related experience is a strong plus.
  • EDM experience desired.
  • Limited heat treating and welding desired.
  • Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Sound decision‑making skills.
  • Good math, reading, and writing skills.
  • Ability to exercise continuous mental, visual, and audio attention.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Vision: near acuity and accommodation for reading information to perform job tasks.
