Job summary

Challenge Manufacturing is seeking a Tool & Die Machinist for our Pontiac, MI plant. You will study specifications, select materials, and set up machine tools to fabricate and repair dies, inspecting tolerances and ensuring parts meet specs.

Responsibilities include operating lathes, mills, grinders, and measuring tools, while adhering to safety and quality standards. A journeyman background and proficiency with Mastercam/SolidWorks are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (required).
• Journeyman or completed apprenticeship (preferred).
• Minimum 2+ years of verifiable tool and die experience or equivalent.
• Ability to read, write, and understand English sufficiently to perform duties.
• Mastercam and SolidWorks experience (preferred).
• Intermediate machining and metal working experience.
• Strong mechanical and shop math aptitude (preferred).
• Work up to 12 hours per day, including weekends; hi-lo license desired.

Responsibilities

• Studies specifications to determine materials, machines, tooling required.
• Computes dimensions, plans layout, and determines assembly method.
• Measures, marks, and scribes stock for machining.
• Sets up and operates lathes, milling machines, shapers and grinders.
• Lifts and positions machined parts, secures parts on surface plate.
• Smooths surfaces and assembles parts into assemblies.
• Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances.
• Heat treats tools or parts.
• Examines dies/tools and recommends design modifications.
• Troubleshoots tooling analysis and resolves quality issues.
• Follow safety and company policies; use measurement equipment as required.
