POSITION SUMMARY:

Sets up, operates, and programs various machines including conventional, special purpose, NC machines, CNC machining centers, CNC grinders, CNC lathe, Tykem laser, and wire EDM to fabricate, overhaul, rebuild, or repair parts, fixtures, or devices. Responsible for dismantling and rebuilding machines or equipment to proper working order.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities, and Procedures:
  • Works to close tolerances (± .00005) to fit parts for press fits, running fits, and sliding fits.
  • Able to program using Mastercam and/or OptiCam software.
  • Reads and studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions, tolerances, and setup requirements.
  • Makes or repairs parts for machine or fixture replacement.
  • Verifies conformance of finished workpieces to specifications and assembles parts into complete assemblies, verifying dimensions and alignment.
  • Installs machined replacement parts and tests machine operation for functionality and performance.
  • Operates welding equipment for cutting or welding parts.
  • Develops specifications and sketches for fabricated parts or products.
  • Grooms grinding wheels and makes wheel strops.
  • Assists in blade forming, welding, grinding, heat treating, and finishing as needed.
  • Prepares grind and hone wheels, grinds breaker knives, rebuilds wigglers and indexing wheels, rebuilds spindles and dressers, and grinds chill blocks and guides.
  • Sharpens carbide grinder station front plates and breaker dies.
  • Collaborates with engineers, production personnel, and programmers to resolve machining or assembly issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ experience as a machinist.
  • Ability to read and interpret instruments and gauges accurately.
  • Proven ability to work to close tolerances (+/- .0005).
  • Experience with mills, lathes, surface grinders, and measuring equipment.
  • Knowledge of machining, welding, cutting, and fabricating processes.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
Physical Demands:

The physical requirements include standing, walking, climbing stairs, stooping, twisting, using hands and fingers, handling objects, talking, and hearing. Occasionally, sitting, reaching, kneeling, or crouching may be required. Repetitive motions and lifting up to 50 pounds are also part of the role. Vision abilities required include close, distant, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
