Main Duties & Responsibilities

Summary:

The Tool & Die Maker will be responsible for manufacturing aerospace assemblies and tooling, including building and repairing aerospace jigs, fixtures, templates, and related tooling used in aircraft parts and assemblies. The role requires the ability to build from blueprints, sketches, and specifications, using CNC or manual machines, hand tools, and power tools. The candidate will review engineering information and work closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Production, Supervisors, and Leads to ensure production schedules are met.

The candidate will be expected to:

  • Read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints to understand tool specifications.
  • Set up and operate machine tools such as CNC or manual machines, and grinders to fabricate and repair tool parts, jigs, and fixtures.
  • Possess basic programming knowledge (Mastercam).
  • Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts using measuring instruments.
  • Participate in team activities to improve processes, productivity, and quality.
  • Work from specifications, blueprints, sketches, models, or verbal orders, and visualize products to determine materials and machines required.
  • Fit and assemble parts to make, repair, or modify jigs, gauges, and tools.
  • Work on projects assigned by the Tooling Coordinator or Lead.
  • Request materials or items needed for projects.
  • Follow established processes and tooling standards.
  • Calculate dimensions and lay out designs using various materials.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area for safety and efficiency.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues to achieve production goals.
  • Ensure effective communication regarding project status and issues.
  • Fabricate all tool and die-related items with initiative and ingenuity, suggesting improvements.
  • Adhere to safety policies and procedures, ensuring safe machine practices.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The pay range for this position is from $29.00 to $50.00 per hour.

Skills and Competencies
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience as a tool maker/jig & fixture builder in the aerospace industry.
  • At least 3 years of experience with manual/CNC lathe and milling machines.
  • Experience in fabricating tools and detailed parts.
  • Knowledge of geometric tolerances and the use of precision measuring instruments.
  • Basic proficiency with SolidWorks and Mastercam.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints.
  • Knowledge of fabrication techniques and materials.
  • Strong math, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organization and follow-up skills.
  • Understanding of deadlines and their impact on business operations.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
