Job summary

JMJ PHILLIP is seeking an experienced Tool & Die Design Supervisor to lead a team responsible for the design, development, and continuous improvement of tooling and die systems supporting manufacturing operations. This leadership role blends technical expertise with people management to ensure projects meet quality standards and production goals.

Responsibilities include supervising designers, overseeing tooling design, coordinating projects from concept to production, and driving cost reduction

Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Tool Design, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Several years of experience in tool and die design within a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of tooling, dies, fixtures, manufacturing processes, and engineering principles.
  • Proficiency with CAD software and engineering design tools.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a team of tool and die designers.
  • Oversee tooling and die design, ensuring manufacturability and quality.
  • Plan and coordinate tool and die design projects from concept through production; monitor budgets.
  • Provide technical manufacturing support and troubleshoot tooling issues.
  • Drive Lean and continuous improvement initiatives in tooling processes.
  • Ensure tooling designs comply with standards and maintain documentation.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Tool & Die Design Supervisor to lead a team responsible for the design, development, and continuous improvement of tooling and die systems that support manufacturing operations. This leadership role combines technical expertise with people management, ensuring projects are completed efficiently, meet quality standards, and align with production goals while fostering innovation and continuous improvement.

Position Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Supervision
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of tool and die designers.
  • Assign workloads, establish priorities, and monitor project progress.
  • Promote a collaborative, safety-focused, and high-performance work environment.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and support employee development.
Tool & Die Design
  • Oversee the design and development of tooling, dies, fixtures, and related manufacturing equipment.
  • Review engineering drawings and design specifications for accuracy and manufacturability.
  • Ensure tooling designs meet production, quality, and cost objectives.
  • Support the implementation of new tooling technologies and design improvements.
Project Management
  • Plan and coordinate tool and die design projects from concept through production.
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure successful project execution.
  • Identify and resolve technical challenges throughout the project lifecycle.
Manufacturing Support
  • Provide technical expertise to manufacturing operations regarding tooling performance.
  • Troubleshoot tooling issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support new product launches and engineering change initiatives.
  • Ensure tooling availability to support production schedules.
Continuous Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to improve tooling efficiency, quality, and manufacturing processes.
  • Implement best practices and standardized design procedures.
  • Participate in Lean manufacturing and process improvement initiatives.
  • Drive cost reduction and productivity improvement projects.
Quality & Compliance
  • Ensure tooling designs comply with engineering standards and quality requirements.
  • Support quality initiatives through design validation and process improvements.
  • Maintain accurate engineering documentation and revision control.
  • Promote workplace safety and compliance with company policies.
Prerequisites
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Tool Design, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
  • Several years of experience in tool and die design within a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of tooling, dies, fixtures, manufacturing processes, and engineering principles.
  • Proficiency with CAD software and engineering design tools.
