Thumb Plastics, Inc. in Bad Axe, MI seeks an Apprentice Tool & Die Maker under Journeyman guidance to build, repair and maintain injection molds and tooling.

You will enroll in apprenticeship, read blueprints, interpret CAD drawings and support tooling programs while adhering to IATF-16949 and ISO 14001 standards.

The role emphasizes mechanical skills, problem solving and time management, with opportunity to advance toward Journeyman certification through required classes.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Intermediate to Advanced Mechanical Skills and Abilities.
• Intermediate Computer Skills.

• Advanced Time Management and Organizational Skills.

Responsibilities

• Enroll in and attend required classes through the Tool & Die Apprenticeship training program to attain Journeyman certification.
• Repair injection molds, on and off-line, when necessary.
• Complete all necessary paperwork, including weekly progress reports, as required by management.
• Use MRC to log hours and check red tags.
• Read and interpret blueprints and have the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Advise the Supervisor on a weekly basis of the progress made on tooling programs.
• Plan the setup and operation of all types of machine shop tools considering the types of materials, tolerances, types of cutting tools, coolants, lubricants, machine tool feeds and speed.
• Cut and weld all types of materials.
• Determine specifications for inspection of work, using precision gauging tools and measuring; performing required inspection before, during, and after machining.
• Assist in troubleshooting problems with and perform hand operations involved in producing jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies using hand tools of the trade.
• Have a good understanding of interdepartmental functions to ensure that program schedules and objectives are met.
• Use drafting and CAD skills to clearly develop ideas in the form of working drawings and sketches.
• Follow all IATF- 16949 / ISO 14001 procedures and work instructions.
• Follow all safety related procedures and work instructions that apply.
