Responsibilities

  • Under Journeyman guidance, build, repair and perform preventative maintenance on injection molds.
  • Also under Journeyman guidance, build and repair end of arm tooling for robots.
  • Enroll in and attend apprenticeship training to attain Journeyman certification.
  • Repair molds (on/off-line) as needed and document progress.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Plan setup and operation of machine shop tools with materials, tolerances, and speeds.
  • Log hours and track progress in required paperwork and systems.
  • Coordinate with supervision on tooling program progress.

Title: Apprentice Tool & Die Maker Reports To: Engineering Manager Status: Full-Time/Hourly (40 hours/week; additional hours as needed to support department and individual goals). Location: Thumb Plastics, Inc. / Bad Axe, MI Job Requirements:

Job Summary: Under Journeyman's guidance, build, repair and perform preventative maintenance on injection molds that are capable of producing quality plastic parts. Also, under Journeyman's guidance, build and repair end of arm (EOA) tooling for robots. Essential Job Functions:
  • Enroll in and attend required classes through the Tool & Die Apprenticeship training program to attain Journeyman certification.
  • Repair injection molds, on and off-line, when necessary.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork, including weekly progress reports, as required by management.
  • Use MRC to log hours and check red tags.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and have the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Advise the Supervisor on a weekly basis of the progress made on tooling programs.
  • Plan the setup and operation of all types of machine shop tools considering the types of materials, tolerances, types of cutting tools, coolants, lubricants, machine tool feeds and speed.
  • Cut and weld all types of materials.
  • Determine specifications for inspection of work, using precision gauging tools and measuring; performing required inspection before, during, and after machining.
  • Assist in troubleshooting problems with and perform hand operations involved in producing jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies using hand tools of the trade.
  • Have a good understanding of interdepartmental functions to ensure that program schedules and objectives are met.
  • Use drafting and CAD skills to clearly develop ideas in the form of working drawings and sketches.
  • Follow all IATF- 16949 / ISO 14001 procedures and work instructions.
  • Follow all safety related procedures and work instructions that apply.
  • General housekeeping duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.
