Job description

Sloan is the world’s leading manufacturer of commercial plumbing systems and has been in operation since 1906. We are at the forefront of the green building movement and provide sustainable restroom solutions, manufacturing water‑efficient products such as flush valves, electronic faucets, soap dispensing systems and sink systems, along with vitreous china fixtures for commercial, industrial and institutional markets worldwide.

We have a great opportunity for a Tool Designer based in our Franklin Park, IL headquarters. In this role you will design and modify manufacturing tooling used to support production operations, including fixtures, work holding, cutting tools, gauges and related equipment. You will translate manufacturing and design intent into robust, safe and manufacturable tooling solutions that support efficient, repeatable production processes.

What you will do
  • Own assigned tool design requests from receipt through final release, managing scope, priorities and follow‑up to drive timely completion.
  • Collaborate with requestors and cross‑functional teams to fully understand design intent, application requirements, equipment interfaces and process constraints.
  • Review production equipment, manufacturing processes and existing tooling to ensure designs account for functional, safety, ergonomic and operational considerations.
  • Develop 3D CAD models for fixtures, cutting tools, work holding, gauges and other manufacturing aids.
  • Review design concepts with stakeholders, revise as needed, and obtain approval before release.
  • Produce complete, accurate, and error‑free engineering drawings and bills of material that conform to company standards, industry standards and best drafting practices.
  • Prepare tool layouts identifying tooling, cutting sequences, and station‑by‑station operations for production equipment.
  • Support fabrication, build and implementation by coordinating with tool room personnel, vendors and internal teams to clarify design intent and resolve issues.
  • Perform peer reviews of other tool designers’ work to ensure quality, accuracy and standards compliance.
  • Apply lessons learned and continuous improvement practices to enhance tooling design quality, efficiency and reliability.
What you will need
  • 5+ Years Tool Designer Experience.
  • Ability to quickly understand equipment, processes and design intent to prevent errors and rework.
  • Advanced proficiency with 3D CAD software, specifically Creo and/or SolidWorks.
  • Demonstrated track record of producing accurate, error‑free drawings suitable for fabrication and production use.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to work directly with manufacturing, quality, engineering, and shop personnel.
  • Proven ability to independently develop tooling solutions from concept to release with minimal direction.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, including machining and or assembly operations.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple design requests simultaneously and follow through to completion.
  • Strong proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and 2D engineering drawings, including GD&T and standard drafting practices.
Benefits
  • Comprehensive health coverage: medical (including prescription coverage), dental and vision insurance.
  • Health Savings Account (HSA) with company contributions for most medical plan options.
  • Financial security: basic life, basic accidental death and dismemberment, short‑term disability, long‑term disability and accident insurance.
  • Additional protection: optional life, critical illness, hospital indemnity, legal, pet insurance and identity theft protection.
  • Convenient commuter benefits.
  • Flexible spending accounts: dependent care FSA.
  • Wellness support: employee assistance and wellness programs.
  • Retirement savings: 401(k) plan with company match and immediate vesting.
  • Generous time off: paid holidays, volunteer time off, paid time off, sick leave, military leave, parental leave, bereavement leave and other paid or unpaid state or local leaves where required.
  • Work‑life balance: hybrid work program.
  • Employee referral program.
  • Professional development: tuition reimbursement program.
  • Community and networking: employee business groups.

Compensation range for this U.S.-based position is $90,000 - $95,000 annually. The position is eligible to participate in the company incentive plan.
