Crane Aerospace and Electronics in Burbank, CA is seeking a Tool Cutter Grinder. The role involves precision smoothing and sharpening of metal tooling, inspection of tooling, and running tools unassisted in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities include manufacturing cutting tools to high quality standards, checking parts to prints, changing wheel/tooling, and maintaining safety practices. OT and weekend work may be required; comprehensive benefits are offered.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 3+ years of relevant work experience
  • Highly knowledgeable in grinding processes, materials and precision measuring instrumentation; understanding of geometry/trigonometry; experience setting up/running tool and cutter grinders
  • Ability to read and interpret blue prints and manufacturing outlines; communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing; ability to review area workloads and assign to team members
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Eligibility: access to Controlled Data; US Persons; ITAR requirements for a DoD contractor

Crane Aerospace and Electronics has an exciting opportunity for a Tool Cutter Grinder.

First Shift Hours are Monday-Friday, 5:30 AM to 2:00 PM. Overtime may adjust start time (e.g., 4:30 AM for extended overtime) and/or extend end time.Flexibility to work overtime and weekends as required.

Job Summary:

The Tool Cutter Grinder performsprecision smoothing, sharpening, polishing, or grinding of metal objects.

Essential Functions:
  • Manufacture cuttingtools to a high quality finish

  • Perform inspectionof tooling throughout process

  • Run machine or job unassisted

  • Check part to print;Make normal machine adjustments

  • Change wheel/tooling as required

  • Achieve standard production/quality

  • Perform operator preventive maintenance andwork area and machine cleaning

  • Report down machines to supervisor

  • Perform all set-up operator criteria andproperly train others

  • Helpto develop/install new processes/methods

  • Troubleshootprocesses/procedures for better methods/actions

  • Maintain and adhere to all standard safety protocols (5S)

  • Any other task assigned by supervisor or management

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience:3+ yearsof relevant work experience

  • Knowledge:Highly knowledgeable in various grinding processes, materialsand precision measuring instrumentation;Understanding of geometry/trigonometry;Experience setting up/running toolandcutter grinders

  • Skills/Abilities:Ability to read and interpret blue prints and manufacturing outlines;Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and inwriting;Ability to review area workloads, prioritize and assign to teammembers to support area;Be capable of running complete tools from solid carbide rod or high speed steel blanks;Proven ability to work with minimalsupervision and oversight under tight time constraints

  • Education/Certification:High School diploma or equivalent

  • Eligibility Requirement: This position may require access to Controlled Data or Information. Where the position requires such access only US Persons will be considered. As a US Department of Defense contractor, we are bound by International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge and training in statistical process control and total quality management
Working Conditions:
  • Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment

  • Manufacturing operations may require the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to: eye safety glasses, gowning, masks, hearing protectors, heel/wrist straps and any other required PPE

  • May be exposed to unusual environmental conditions such as loud noises, cold temperatures, confined spaces, dust or fumes

  • Flexible and willing to work overtime if necessary
