Job summary

Crane Aerospace & Electronics in Burbank, CA seeks a Conventional Machinist for first shift. You will set up and operate conventional machine tools to produce precision parts, inspect parts, and collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams. Weekend/overtime flexibility is required.

Crane Aerospace and Electronics has an exciting opportunity for a Conventional Machinist for our Burbank location. First Shift Hours are Monday-Friday, 5:30 AM to 2:00 PM. Overtime may adjust start time (e.g., 4:30 AM for extended overtime) and/or extend end time. Flexibility to work overtime and weekends as required. Job Summary

The Conventional Machinist has some knowledge on setting up and operating a variety of conventional machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments including fabricating, modifying, or repairing mechanical instruments. The Conventional Machinist may also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

Essential Functions
  • Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as conventional lathes, milling machines, shapers, grinders, or drill press
  • Communicate with engineering, supervisory, or manufacturing personnel to exchange technical information
  • Measure, examine, and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measurement instruments
  • Set up, adjust, and operate all of the conventional machine tools, drill presses and many specialized or advanced variation tools to perform precision machining operations
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials into machines
  • Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process
  • Study sample parts, blueprints, and drawings to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products up to geometric dimensional tolerances
  • Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work
  • Listen to operating machines or equipment in order to detect machine malfunctions and compensate for problems
  • Any other task assigned by supervisor or management
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience: 2+ years training in conventional machining involving both on-the-job experience and informal training
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of various inspection equipment i.e. micrometers, calipers, height gages and comparators; Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations; Knowledge of Geometric Dimensional Tolerancing; Understanding of cutting tool Geometry; Knowledge of tooling and coordination
  • Skills/Abilities: Able to work quickly and efficiently through Process Improvement structure; Good verbal and written communication; Strong attention to detail and accurate record keeping
  • Education/Certification: High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Eligibility Requirement: FAA sensitive position – may be subject to a Government security investigation to verify eligibility for access to classified information
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in Aerospace industry
  • Machine shop class(es) at local junior colleges
  • Understanding of basic Math, Geometry and Trigonometry
Working Conditions
  • Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment
  • Manufacturing operations may require the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to: eye safety glasses, gowning, masks, hearing protectors, heel/wrist straps and any other required PPE
  • May be exposed to unusual environmental conditions such as loud noises, cold temperatures, confined spaces, dust or fumes
