Job summary

AUTOKINITON is seeking a skilled Tool & Die Maker to perform die repairs, maintenance, and welding on metal stamping dies at our Chicago plant. You will troubleshoot electrical and pneumatic systems and operate the overhead crane to move dies.

Candidates should have a state journeyman card or 5–7 years on stamping dies, plus experience with draw and transfer dies and welding processes. Strong teamwork and communication are essential.

Qualifications

• State-issued journeyman’s card or 5–7 years’ experience on metal stamping dies.
• Strong knowledge of draw and transfer die processes.
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
• Experience with welding, plasma cutting, and oxy-acetylene equipment.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Repair and maintain nitrogen pressure systems used in the dies.

• Weld a variety of materials used in maintenance and the tool room.

• Operation of the overhead crane to move and stage dies.
• Machining of materials associated with repairs and maintenance of the dies.

This full-time role is a part of our Tool & Die team and reports to the Tool & Die Supervisor.

Required experience:

• A state issued journeyman’s card or a minimum of 5-7 years verifiable experience working on metal stamping dies.
• Strong knowledge / experience related to draw dies and transfer die processes.
• Time management skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Welding experience and the ability to operate welding, plasma cutting, and oxy-acetylene equipment. Typical welding processes include, Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW).
• Strong knowledge of machinery set-up and operations.
• Experience with trouble shooting and root cause analysis, to implement permanent corrective actions.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills for use in a team environment.
