Job summary

Dauch Corporation in Detroit, MI is seeking a skilled Tool and Die Maker to plan, lay out, and perform bench and machine operations to construct, alter, and repair tools, dies, fixtures, and gauges.

The role requires completion of a state-qualified apprenticeship or equivalent experience, strong math and drawing interpretation, and the ability to train others while leading tooling projects in a fast-paced shop environment.

Qualifications

• Completion of a state-qualified apprenticeship program or equivalent work experience with general education including verbal and written communication and technical math.
• Ability to perform difficult/technical calculations with decimals and fractions, use and interpret a wide variety of precision measuring instruments for exacting measurements, work from complicated drawings and specifications.
• Consistently demonstrate a high degree of skill and extensive knowledge of tooling practices and applications; set up, adjust, and operate machine shop equipment.
• Strong inter-personal skills needed to effectively train, guide, and support others in performing their duties and responsibilities. Ability to effectively organize work flow and set priorities in accordance with established procedures and daily instructions.
• May act as Lead Person on any given tooling project, allocating work to tool room personnel specializing in various areas of machining and bench operations.

Responsibilities

• Plan, lay out, and perform bench and machine operations to construct, alter and repair tooling, dies, fixtures, molds, gauges, and machine attachments.
• Lead tooling projects and allocate work to tool room personnel.
• Occasionally develop and perform experiments, select materials and allowances when needed.
• Assist others with material handling and maintain safe, neat, and orderly work areas.
• Perform other tasks or duties as assigned.

Job Description:
