Job summary

The Ferry Cap & Set Screw Company in Lakewood, OH is seeking a Header Operator and Tool & Die Maker to join our precision manufacturing team. You will set up and operate lathes, mills, shapers and grinders to produce components to strict tolerances, assemble dies, and test outputs against specifications.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or trade training, plus hands-on experience with blueprints, shop math, and carbide die processes.

Qualifications

• Read and interpret routine blueprints and tolerances.
• Understand shop math and read production prints.
• Proficient with hand tools and measuring devices.
• Training or experience in carbide trap and extrusion dies.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate lathes, milling machines, shaper and grinder to machine parts to specifications.
• Fit and assemble jigs, fixtures, tools and dies.
• Set up runs, test dies, and trace issues to correct root causes.

The Job:

As a Tool and Die Maker, you’ll be part of our team located in Lakewood, OH. You’ll get to:

• Set up and operate tools such as lathes, milling machines, shaper and grinder to machine parts and verify conformance of machine parts to specifications.
• Fit and assemble jigs, fixtures, tools and dies.
• Set up runs off and test dies to produce a product to specifications, tracing die difficulties to their source and correcting them.
• Lapping, grinding, fitting, and finishing dies
• Read and interpret routine blueprints.
• Use hand tools of the trade.
• Perform maintenance for cold header tooling and work with cold header operators, engineering, and production to support customer’s needs and lead times.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area in compliance with regulations.
• Promptly report any unsafe conditions or equipment issues to supervisors.
• Support continuous improvement by sharing process enhancement ideas and maintaining plant cleanliness.
• Maintain proper work environment by maintaining plant cleanliness and organized work areas utilizing 5S practices.
• Other duties as required.

The Person:

You love to learn and grow and be acknowledged for your valuable contributions.

• High School degree, Trade School graduate or Apprenticeship in Tool and Die preferred.
• Ability to make carbide trap and extrusion dies.
• Ability to read and understand production prints and tolerances, drawings, follow routings and shop math
• Comfortable using various hand held measuring tools.
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds, continuously stand for 8 hour shift and are comfortable in a moderate to heavy physical effort environment
