Job description

Job Description and Requirements:

The Toddler Early Childhood Educator at New Amsterdam School is responsible for creating a warm, supportive atmosphere for our students. They will lead in the caretaking and development of age-appropriate curriculum consistent with Waldorf Early Childhood Education methods and practices for children ages 2 - 4 years.

At New Amsterdam School, our teachers are invited to bring their individual interests, strengths, and vision of early childhood education to their work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Arrive at least 30 minutes (8:00 am) in advance of school opening each day.
  • Plan and facilitate all curriculum including artistic work, story and circle time, nap time, and indoor & outdoor playtime.
  • Plan, manage, and prepare materials and classroom.
  • Plan and manage snack preparation & clean up daily.
  • Support and manage diaper changing and potty training for each individual child’s needs.
  • Maintain a daily class log of sleep, meal, and bathroom notes.
  • Maintain daily communication with parents and guardians regarding the child's well-being.
  • Closely observe each child’s physical, social, and emotional well-being and development through the day/week/month/year.
  • Collaborate with the School Director to plan and implement curriculum.
  • Help keep a clean and tidy school environment. All teachers are responsible for basic classroom cleaning and maintenance (sanitizing surfaces, washing dishes, putting away toys and furniture, decoration, organizing supplies, food storage and clean up, etc).
  • Attend weekly one-hour Full School Meetings.
  • Actively engage in professional development throughout the year. This includes required trainings from the NYC DOHMH.
  • Participate in planning and facilitating school festivals.
  • Adhere to all School policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • File all required health forms and documentation of training required by June 30, 2025.

Required Experience & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Waldorf Early Childhood teacher training (highly preferred).
  • M.ED, MA or MS in Early Childhood Education in progress, or currently held (highly preferred).
  • New York State Teacher Certification (highly preferred) *.
  • Previous experience working with children and parents in a group setting.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Committed to personal growth and development.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong understanding of childhood development and behavioral support.
  • Commitment to working to create a supportive and respectful environment.

Bonus Skills:

  • Spanish language proficiency.
  • Fundraising Experience.
  • Handwork Experience / Interest.

Compensation:

Salaried Position ($40,000 - $60,000 / per year depending on experience and qualifications).

*Please note: in the State of New York, employment is at will and is not guaranteed for any period of time.
